Wedding Flowers
Wedding bouquets and table arrangements
Flowers are a cornerstone of weddings and often set the mood of the entire ceremony. Indeed, when it comes to creating romance, flowers are a must.
Whether you opt for real, fresh-cut flowers or artificial creations that are hard to distinguish from their real counterparts, there are many options to customize the look of your wedding. You can choose the traditional romance of roses and lilies, the bright colors of gerbera daisies or sunflowers, or the pure elegance of orchids. With so many flowers and flower varieties available, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect one for your special day.
Types of Wedding Flowers
There are three main categories of wedding flowers:
- Wedding bouquet: This is the bride’s centerpiece and generally sets the tone and color scheme for the ceremony. Aside from choosing the type of flower to be featured in the bouquet, brides will have to decide whether to use real or silk flowers. Several reasons brides choose real flowers are that they smell wonderful, they have more detail, there is more selection from businesses, they have a softer texture, they photograph well and they can be freeze-dried for saving.
- Silk flowers, however, are lighter to carry, do not wilt, are easier to transport, are hypoallergenic, can be ordered and stored weeks before the wedding and finally, do not attract bees or other insects. In the end, it’s really a matter of preference; either choice can make a stunning bouquet for your wedding.
- Wedding reception flowers Generally, it is best to choose the same type of flower for your wedding reception as for your bouquet in order to create continuity. Beyond this guideline, however, virtually anything goes. Roses are traditional wedding flowers, but many brides today use tulips, daisies or orchids for their wedding. As long as the type of flower you choose has some meaning to you (even if it’s just that you like the look or color), you can’t really go wrong.
- Anniversary flowers: Even if you used silk flowers for your wedding, it is traditional to give your spouse real flowers on your anniversary. Red roses are traditional and say “true love,” but just as with wedding flowers, pretty much anything goes.
Weddings are joyous occasions, and flowers add to the romance and magic. As long as you choose a flower that is important to you and your special someone, the type is not important. Whatever you choose should enhance the day and make your wedding look beautiful, so just pick flowers you love.
