Roses are the ultimate symbol of love. The Language of Roses
The "language of roses," or floriography, dates back to the Victorian era, when a certain color of rose signified a gentleman's feelings towards a lady. Indeed, although the language isn't widely known anymore, different colors of roses can definitely inspire different feelings in the receiver. Here are some common colors of roses and their meanings:
- Red roses: Whether they're carmine, garnet or deep blood-red, red roses say "true love." A dozen of these flowers can really tell your lady how you feel about her.
- Pink roses: These roses can be soft pink or hot pink; either way, in floriography, they mean "grace". They're the perfect gift for a younger girl or teenager because they also represent youth.
- White roses: White roses can be creamy or bright, snowy white. They are normally used in funeral flower arrangements because they mean "consolation." They can also mean purity or peace.
- Lavender roses: Meaning "love at first sight," these are perfect to give to a new girlfriend in your life. They also look wonderful mixed with baby's breath or other white flowers for a delicately colored bouquet.
- Yellow roses: Meaning "friendship," yellow roses are the perfect way to surprise a member of your family or a close friend. However, giving these to your sweetie can mean trouble—yellow roses in this context traditionally represented "infidelity" or "dying love." In modern culture, though, yellow roses are simply pretty flowers.
Consider mixing roses into a flower arrangement as well as giving them on their own. Roses provide a heavenly sweet scent that awakens the senses and provides a feeling of happiness.
